Barnsley Pharmacy Needle and Syringe Programme

Service Overview

The Needle and Syringe Programme (NSP) is a vital harm reduction service that provides sterile injecting equipment free of charge. It aims to reduce the sharing and reuse of paraphernalia, thereby lowering the risk of blood-borne virus transmission. The service also offers brief interventions, safer injecting advice, and signposting to additional support. NSP promotes safe disposal of sharps, reducing public health risks such as needle finds. Delivered through pharmacies, NSP fosters therapeutic relationships and provides accessible support for individuals who may not engage with other services. This service does not condone substance use but prioritises health and safety.
