Managing PERT Shortages: Creon® Alternative (Adults) – Imported Pangrol®
South Yorkshire ICB continues to work closely with local hospitals and Community Pharmacy South Yorkshire to support access to Pancreatic Enzyme Replacement Therapy (PERT).
Key Points:
-
Creon® (UK-licensed) should be prescribed as the first-line option. Stock is released to wholesalers three times per month.
-
If Creon® is unavailable and a patient is expected to run out within 10 days, Pangrol® may be prescribed for adult patients, in line with local approval.
-
Pangrol® can now be ordered directly by community pharmacies from the Oxford Pharmacy Store (OPS), with next-day delivery for orders placed by 2pm. This centralised stock is underwritten by University Hospital Southampton to help reduce lead times.
-
Please refer to local guidance for any additional arrangements agreed with specific trusts.
