Not Dispensed Scheme
Service Overview
Medicines waste in Sheffield costs the NHS £1-2m each year. In addition to the financial impact this has, it also has an environmental impact as all waste medicines have to be incinerated contributing to the carbon footprint.
In order to try and reduce waste, South Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) commissions the Not Dispensed Scheme. The scheme allows pharmacies remuneration for not dispensing items that the patient does not require.
