Labour MP Ed Miliband Visits Community Pharmacy in Barnby Dun
On Friday, 6th March, Weldricks, Barnby Dun received a visit from Ed Miliband, MP for Doncaster North.
During the visit the team spoke with Ed about the role community pharmacy plays in the local area, being the real front door of the NHS, as pharmacy teams see patients more often than any other primary care setting. They also talked about their concerns about the lack of contract at the start of April and how difficult it is to make business decisions when there is uncertainty about what they will be paid from 1st April onwards. In addition, they spoke about how much more Community Pharmacy could offer to the local residents if the funding for the sector was addressed.
The team also described the strong relationships they have with local residents and the care they provide on a daily basis. This includes supporting patients with memory issues, offering informal support to people who live alone, delivering high-quality care for minor illnesses, and sensitively handling requests for contraception.
A big thank you to the team at Weldricks Barnby Dun for hosting and taking the time to discuss the important issues facing Community Pharmacy.
